All that being said, he did look pretty good in limited action in 2017. I’m curious to see how he does in SF given that they run more-or-less the same scheme like the Chargers.

My personal thought is that they are incredibly likely to be 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 and miss the playoffs. I think that in general, the roster isn’t strong enough yet to win it all. I think you probably need one more big off-season before it’s time to make the push. Do you agree with that? Disagree? I don’t know if we have any top 5 position groups. Maybe linebacker, depending on Smith, but the SAM drags that down. I think our biggest strength will be Jimmy, then either the linebackers or our secondary. Dontae Johnson and the pass rush were both just terrible last year, and with Johnson gone and the pass rush improving (?), that should allow the secondary to shine. Personally, I think anything less than 8-8 is a disappointment. Several of these games I thought could go either way, so it wouldn’t surprise me if we were within a couple. If we make the playoffs, it’ll be as a wild card, and I doubt we’ll make it deep. One more solid offseason should get us into title contention, in my opinion, especially with the edge rushing talent in the draft next year
