James Gunn confirmed a few former Marvel stars who are both in and out of Warner Bros.’ upcoming Superman movie, Superman: Legacy.

Along with overseeing the entire new slate of entries for the rebooted DC Universe,  Gunn is hard at work casting new actors for his first Superman movie, with nearly a dozen names officially on the call sheet already.

The most recent additions to the cast came in former Beast actor Nicholas Hoult taking on the villainous Lex Luthor and young up-and-comer Skylar Gisondo embodying a new live-action version of Jimmy Olsen.

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn recently spoke out about the casting of Marvel actors within the greater DC Universe.

Pom Klementieff

Although The Hollywood Reporter reported that Pom Klementieff was set to play an undisclosed role in Superman: Legacy, James Gunn set the record straight, posting to Threads that the report was false.

Calling Klementieff “one of [his] favorite actors to work with,” Gunn bluntly stated that a role for her in Superman: Legacy hasn’t been discussed:

“Despite Pom being one of my favorite actors to work with, this is 100% not true. Not only is Pom not in the movie, but no one has ever even discussed her being in the movie, nor do I have any idea what role she would possibly play.”

Gunn also reconfirmed in another Threads post that he has discussed a specific role with Klementieff for her to play, and it is completely separate from anything coming in this new Superman movie:

“One thousand percent – a specific character that has nothing to do with ‘Superman Legacy.'”

Klementieff is best known for her role as Mantis across multiple MCU movies and Disney+ shows, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2Vol. 3, and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Miriam Shor

The same release from The Hollywood Reporter noted that Miriam Shor was confirmed for a role in Superman: Legacy alongside Klementieff, although Gunn denied her casting as well.

Sharing the report in his Instagram stories, Gunn took a different route for his comments on Shor, noting that he would “love to find a place for her” in Superman: Legacy:

“I have no idea where this came from. Miriam isn’t presently cast either, but I’d love to find a place for her.”

Gunn also responded directly to The Hollywood Reporter’s article, plainly stating, “Neither of those people have been cast.”

Following that post, The Hollywood Reporter updated their report to note that Shor was in talks for a role in Superman: Legacy, although her role wasn’t specified yet.

Shor’s major MCU appearance came in 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where she played Vim. She’s also seen in a minor role in Season 1, Episode 8 of Netflix’s Jessica Jones series.

Sean Gunn

James Gunn’s brother, Sean Gunn, was confirmed in late November 2023 for his new DC role in Superman: Legacy, as he takes on the character of Maxwell Lord within the DC Universe.

Gunn appeared in all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies under his brother in the MCU as Kraglin, as well as in brief roles as Weasel and Calendar Man in The Suicide Squad.

He will also voice two different characters, Weasel and G.I. Robot, in 2024’s Creature Commandos, making Maxwell Lord his third separate role within the DC Universe.

Nathan Fillion

Nathan Fillion takes on his second DC role in Superman: Legacy with his casting as Guy Gardner, one of the less heroic characters to take on the Green Lantern mantle.

Fillion previously had a cameo as a prisoner at the Kyln in Guardians of the Galaxy, and he played a live-action role as Master Karja in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This also marks his return to the DC Universe after first playing The Detachable Kid (T.D.K.) in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad in 2021.

Superman: Legacy is set to fly into theaters on July 11, 2025.
