After having her role recast for the MCU’s upcoming Disney+ show, Daredevil: Born Again, one of the stars from the original Daredevil Netflix series broke her silence on the move.
While Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are both in line to reprise their roles as Daredevil and Kingpin from Netflix’s Defenders Saga, Marvel Studios has made it clear that there will be plenty of roles recast for the new Disney+ entry.
News about casting for the show picked up in early March with news that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson weren’t on the call sheet for Born Again, indicating that both Karen Page and Foggy Nelson will be played by new actors in this MCU series.
This has a number of fans upset and curious about what this means for other roles in Daredevil: Born Again, bringing up plenty of questions about how the story will fit both into the larger MCU and potentially with its Netflix counterpart as well.
Actress Ayelet Zurer, who portrayed Wilson Fisk’s love interest and eventual wife, Vanessa, in Netflix’s Daredevil, took to Instagram to finally address being recast for Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again series.
This comes after Sandrine Holt was cast as Vanessa Fisk for the new MCU series, making her the first known character to be publicly recast from the Netflix show.
Zurer shared an article looking back on her Daredevil character, highlighting her best moments from her original three-season run.
In the second part of her Instagram Story, she expressed her sadness to not continue on in the Disney+ show while sharing how big of a fan she still is of Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin:
“Sad to not take part. But I will always be Vincent D’Onofrio’s biggest fan”
Daredevil: Born Again‘s casting has been quite the intriguing topic with no confirmation regarding its connection to or separation from its Netflix counterpart. And while this round of recasting will disappoint many, including those being recast themselves, the hope is that it will all be for the benefit of Marvel making a show that will speak to the entire MCU fandom.
Born Again has been incredibly busy on the casting front by bringing more than half a dozen new stars into the series, although most of the roles haven’t been revealed yet outside of Cox, D’Onofrio, Holt, and Jon Bernthal’s returning Punisher.
But with filming taking place for almost the entire rest of this year, there is still a great deal of time for these roles to reveal themselves, particularly if Daredevil ends up facing the delays that have plagued the MCU recently.
Daredevil: Born Again is currently filming, and the series is set to release on Disney+ in Spring 2024.
