While updates on Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man on Disney+ have been sporadic at best, a new report indicates that it might start rolling cameras far sooner than expected.
The original announcement for the show came out of nowhere and was a surprise to most fans. However, it didn’t take long for intrigue to settle in and start growing interest in the project.
Not too long ago, Deadline reported how Marvel Studios had cast Aquaman‘s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the lead role. Two months before that, Ben Kingsley was revealed to be returning as Iron Man 3‘s Trevor Slattery as well.
The project is even rumored to want Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk for a key role.
Now, fans might be able to get a better estimate on Wonder Man‘s debut.
Thanks to Discussing Film, fans now have an idea when the upcoming Marvel Studios’ Wonder Man Disney+ series will debut.
According to the report, production for the project is aimed to start at the end of March 2023.
Additionally, the director behind The Spectacular Now, James Ponsoldt, is in talks to direct some episodes of the show’s first season.
As of writing, Wonder Man has not been officially acknowledged by Marvel Studios. With news for the project starting to become more plentiful, perhaps fans will see an announcement from them any day now.
So, with production starting up in late March, when might it be hitting Disney+?
Normally, its start date would indicate a probable premiere in late summer or early fall of 2024. However, with rumors that Agatha: Coven of Chaos may be pushed into 2025, it’s impossible to truly nail down a premiere date for Yahya Abdul-Mateen’s project.
A listing from the Writers Guild of America for Wonder Man showrunner Andrew Guest recently pointed to the Disney+ series premiering in the 2023-24 season. That would seemingly place the MCU premiere between late 2023 and early 2024.
But with Agatha currently slated to kick off the year and the 18-episode Daredevil: Born Again placed to occupy most of the middle of the year, Wonder Man may have to be saved for fall 2024 – where it currently has plenty of openings for Disney+ in its Phase 6 slate.
Although, if Agatha were to end up pushing into 2025 as has been rumored by some sources, then Wonder Man may be fast-tracked to replace it in early 2024.
In general, there have also been plenty of shifts and delays in Mavel Studios’ plans, including a possible push for the upcoming Avengers films and potentially the addition of a whole other Phase for the Multiverse Saga. Needless to say, the MCU’s landscape is currently in a constant state of flux.
It’s also worth noting that if the Disney+ series does begin in just under two months, then it could end up filming at the same time as a slew of Marvel Studios productions – Agatha, Daredevil: Born Again, Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and Blade.
Hopefully, with filming potentially right around the corner, fans will be able to learn more about Wonder Man sooner rather than later
