Ms. Marvel Season 2 Receives Exciting Update

Throughout Phase 4 of the MCU, audiences were introduced to a lengthy roster of new heroes on the big screen and Disney+; but few characters have resonated with fans as much as Kamala Khan in Ms. Marvel.

Played by real-life MCU fan Iman Vellani, Kamala Khan is an Avengers-obsessed Jersey City teen whose own powers are unlocked via a mysterious bangle. In addition to Vellani’s charming performance in this coming-of-age tale, fans responded to the series’ family-driven story, MCU connections, and colorful aesthetic.

However, unlike other Marvel Studios series on Disney+, fans knew that the show finale was only the beginning as Kamala Khan had already been confirmed for 2023’s Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels.

Now, new reports suggest that Marvel Studios intends to continue Kamala Khan’s story post-The Marvels and back on Disney+.

According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios has reportedly greenlit a Season 2 of Ms. Marvel for Disney+.

At the D23 Expo, Iman Vellani responded to questions about the potential for a Season 2, saying, “They don’t tell me anything.”

However, she has expressed in the past what she would like to see in a second season, comparing Kamala’s next chapter to “what Spider-Man went through after fighting with the Avengers in ‘Civil War’…”

If a Season 2 is, in fact, being developed, Ms. Marvel would join Loki as the only other MCU Disney+ series to date to receive a second season.

Ms. Marvel’s Embiggening Questions

While Kamala Khan’s personal struggle with her family and identity reached a satisfying conclusion by the Season 1 finale, her own story is far from over.

In addition to that body swap with Captain Marvel, the finale didn’t reveal what Bruno’s note had to say, where their relationship will go now that he’s moving away, what will happen to Kamran, and that little bombshell that Kamala is, in fact, a mutant.

Even though her mutant gene could be revisited in The Marvels, this detail – along with her own issues – may be saved for a second season. In fact, they could be why Marvel Studios chose to place them in the season finale to begin with.

While fans will have to wait and see what The Marvels has in store for Kamala, another question is when fans can expect this second season – given the studio’s crowded Phase 5 slate – and if directing duo Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi will return.

Not only did Fallah and El Arbi direct several of the show’s most successful episodes and played a part in creating its distinctive visual style, but they were also the directors of Batgirl which was infamously axed by Warner Bros. Discovery for tax purposes.

If Marvel Studios has made a call on Fallah and El Arbi, that alone would be huge news for both the show and the industry.

Now since Marvel just came off a string of announcements and reveals at the D23 Expo, it’s hard to know when Ms. Marvel’s sophomore season will be officially announced. But if this news is true, a Ms. Marvel post-credits scene seems likely for The Marvels come July of 2023 and may also be the reason for those post-D23 reshoots.

The Marvels is set to debut in theaters on July 28, 2023.
