Sony Delays 2 Upcoming Spider-Man Spin-off Movies

Sony Pictures hasn’t had the best run with its interconnected universe of Spider-Man movies, particularly after the critical and financial disaster that was this year’s Morbius. Even so, that isn’t stopping the company from continuing to build this universe after some success with Tom Hardy’s Venom movies, especially with the hopes to keep the Spider-Man rights under the Sony umbrella.

Morbius already kickstarted the delay train for the company, having its release date pushed a whopping seven times before making its underwhelming debut in April 2022. Partially due to the pandemic, this marked only Sony’s third movie in the studio’s Spider-Man Universe, although plans are already set for more over the next few years.

Unfortunately, thanks to the latest insider news, that trend of delays continues to plague Sony as two of the studio’s upcoming releases will have to wait longer than expected to come to the big screen.

Sony Delays Spider-Man Spin-Offs

Sony Pictures has officially delayed the release dates for its next two Spider-Man spin-off movies.

Kraven the Hunter was delayed from its January 13, 2023 release, and it will now premiere later next year on October 6. This bumps Madame Web from the October 6 date, and it will now debut on February 16, 2024.

Additionally, an untitled Marvel movie from Sony was pushed up from July 12, 2024 to June 6, 2024.

Will New Sony Release Dates Stick?

Even for the troubles that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has had with its releases, this is an unfortunate round of news for both Kraven the Hunter and Madame Web. This will mean that Sony will remain out of the movie spotlight for a full 18 months after Morbius, although considering how bad the reception was for that solo outing, this could give the company time to regroup and come up with a new strategy.

The delay will leave both films with an extended amount of time for post-production, particularly with Madame Web now not releasing until early 2024. Fans will also pay close to this change on the Marvel Studios side of things, as there is still an open slot for the MCU on February 16, 2024, which many have thought could belong to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3.

While the reasoning behind this decision will likely remain a mystery, fans will pay close to the development behind Sony’s upcoming movies, especially with some questionable decisions already being made in terms of the story in both outings.

Kraven the Hunter will now debut on October 6, 2023, with Madame Web coming on February 16, 2024.
